Don Quixote

February 9 - March 5

By Anne Ludlum & David Quicksall
Adapted from the Novel by Miguel de Cervantes
Directed by Susan Aversa

Don Quixote was actually two novels, written in the early 17th century by Miguel de Cervantes. In our story, the first act is based on his first book and features many of the most loved stories of the noble Knight-Errant, Don Quixote of La Mancha. Act two is based on the lesser-known second novel, but incorporates many of the characters from the first. Anne Ludlum and David Quicksall have created a lively, English/Spanish adaptation which captures the joy, chaos and poignancy of Don Quixote. Ten actors bring to life all of the zany people of La Mancha and is suitable for the entire family. There is some coarse humor, comic violence and sexual innuendo.

The Revolutionists

March 23 - April 16

By Lauren Gunderson
Directed by Susan Aversa

Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world. There is some strong language and coarse humor.
“…in this sparkling work, politics is very, very funny. Gunderson knows it’s tricky to present entertaining, yet socially driven art, but she does so without losing the rhythm and forward momentum of her characters…These are hilarious and lovable women trapped in a history with a somber final act.” – Houston Chronicle
Performances are scheduled for 1:30 pm matinees and 7:30 evening shows. The performance schedule is Thursday through Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees for a four-week run.

Into The Woods

May 4 - 28

Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Book by James Lapine
Directed by Christine Williams
Musical Direction by Laurie Anne Hunter

This intricate, beautifully written and scored musical covers multiple themes: growing up, parents and children, accepting responsibility, morality, and finally wish fulfillment and its consequences. Almost everything in this fairy tale goes wrong and nothing is quite what it seems. James Lapine said that the most unpleasant person (The Witch) would have the truest things to say, and the “nicer” people would be less honest. In the Witch’s words: “I’m not good; I’m not nice: I’m just right.” Join us for our musical venture Into the Woods. Suitable for ages 6+.
Performances are scheduled for 1:30 pm matinees and 7:30 evening shows. The performance schedule is Thursday through Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees for a four-week run.

Desperate Measures

June 22 - July 16

Music by David Friedman
Book & Lyrics by Peter Kellogg
Directed by Todd Nielsen
Musical Direction by Laurie Anne Hunter

This delightful new musical won Drama Desk Awards for Best Music & Lyrics and Out Critics Circle and Off-Broadway Alliance Awards for Best Musical. Loosely based on William Shakespeare’s comedy, Measure for Measure, the plot and casting is streamlined and the setting is the American Old West – late 1800’s. It’s a retake on one of the “problem plays” and it’s a rowdy, bawdy summer fun-filled musical that we’re sure you will enjoy. Join us for our trip to the Wild West and round up your friends to a toe-tapping musical experience. Sexual innuendo and bawdy humor – if it were a movie, it would be PG-13.
Performances are scheduled for 1:30 pm matinees and 7:30 evening shows. The performance schedule is Thursday through Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees for a four-week run.

Bernhardt/Hamlet

August 17 - September 10

By Theresa Rebeck
Directed by Rick Robinson

Weary of coasting along in one lucrative revival of Camille after another, the 55-year-old Sarah Bernhardt, arguably one of the world’s finest actresses, risks her career, her reputation and her feeble bank account to pull up her pants and go, literally, for broke. Rebeck’s spirited, funny new play creates that combination of passion, narcissism and bravery that Bernhardt summoned up to tackle Shakespeare’s formidable tragic hero. Don’t miss this delightful romp set in Paris at the beginning of the 20th Century. Renee Hewitt stars as the irrepressible Sarah.

If this show were a movie, it would be rated R for mature subject matter.

Jekyll & Hyde

October 5 - 29

Adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher
From the Novel by Robert Louis Stevenson
Directed by Eric Poppick

This tight, ensemble driven tale of the man who created a monster within him is a clever, well written adaptation of the famous Robert Louis Stevenson drama. It’s a smart, tense and suspenseful take on the evil that lurks in the hearts of men. We’re delighted to add this to our Halloween time slot in keeping with our plan to bring you exciting new works for the haunting season. Not recommended for younger audiences and the faint of heart!
